Our Story

Our Story

Our Story
"

A 35-hectare vineyard in Arma, Boeotia is the place that gave birth to the organically cultivated wine Armathos. Our profound respect for Nature, our sincere love for wine, our spontaneity, and our tireless effort converged to create organic wines with quality and integrity. We want Armathos Winery to be both a journey and a destination, rich in flavor and feeling.

The cultivation of our vineyards is organic and certified by DIO. During winemaking no machines are used, but a manual press. Fertilization complies with the standards of organic farming. Thanks to the green practices followed, the wine maintains its distinctive characteristics and unique identity. Our fundamental principle is the reduction of environmental footprint.

Winemaking Philosophy

Winemaking Philosophy
"

George Loulis, being an engineer by profession and looking for a place to develop his businesses in the construction sector, left Athens for a village in Boeotia and discovered an entirely new world that disarmed him. Thus, in 2000, his passion for working with nature brought a new love into his life: cultivating the land. More specifically, a 17-stremma vineyard around his workplace and home. At first, he cultivated the red French variety Merlot, having been fascinated by its taste for years. Then came winemaking, in a, I would say, emotional way. “I did not aim for financial profit, but for my personal satisfaction.” Influenced by the Garagistes movement that was born in France in 1980, which advocates small wine production with the least possible equipment—hence the term “garage wines”—he proceeded to produce wines experimentally, in his home courtyard. Time passed and my hobby built a new world he could never have imagined. “My wines. The offspring of my humble love for water and soil.” Almost two decades later, his winery in Arma, Boeotia, produces rosé and fresh red wines as well as aged reds, with organic cultivation and vinification. Varieties: Merlot, Assyrtiko, and Malagousia. “Armathos is my philosophy of life.” A wine that travels far and brings people closer together.
